My artistic journey began as a child when my father taught me to look at life and myself through a creative lens. As I grew up I took breaks from creating art and explored other interests, and over the years have been influenced and inspired by both of my parents in different ways. After experiencing a painful and unexpected loss I eventually reconnected with my passion for art which helped me begin my healing process and find ways to express emotions and cope with what I had experienced. Throughout high school and into my college studies I explored drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking and photography and then discovered art therapy. Then after gaining experience as a school portrait photographer and working with senior adults and other young artists who are also passionate about the power of the creative process I applied to graduate school to study art therapy and counseling. I am currently graduated and working as a licensed Creative Arts Therapist for a not-for-profit human service agency where I have the privilege and honor to work with youth and their families to introduce art as a forum for expression and healing.
Through the process of photography I strive to capture images that evoke emotion and capture authenticity. I have learned that creativity bridges gaps and believe that as individuals we are all connected in some way. Most of the subjects in my images have inspired me and played an important role in my life reinforcing my belief that life is full of surprises if we have faith in ourselves and others. I am drawn to photographing people and undiscovered beauty, really anything that resonates with me on a deeper level going beyond the surface of first impressions.
